(adapted from a linkeldinkel post)
I am just trying to say that communication on this platform [LinkedIn, not this blog, this blog is awesome] feels robotic and stiff and samey and [is it just me or am I falling into redundancy?]. I feel like I don’t really understand any of the people that message me, be they recruitor or peers/colleagues to add to my network. This makes many people on here incredibly boring, thus making the network, its posts and ‘doing a business’ on it incredibly boring.
“Well, uh, duh! We are on LiNkeDiN, we are meant to NeTwoRK and be PrOFesSOnal!” - Some random guy probably
Well, first of all, learn how to spell, you imaginary strawman I am using to further my narrative. And secondly, as we are all humans, - an assumption I doubt more and more - how are we supposed to be ‘doing a business’ if we devoid ourselves of all traits that make us unique??? If we try to homogenize (/həˈmÉ’dÊ’É™nʌɪz/) further and further and further, eventually we might as well be talking to a spreadsheet of people their accomplishments and samey business posts. And god knows we needed more spreadsheets in our lives!
It is better to not post anything and thus say nothing, than it is to post something and STILL SAY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, BUT LOUDER THIS TIME. I genuinely believe that with more and more short-form content, meaningless LinkedIn slop and soulless blogposts being posted on the internet, it is becoming harder and harder to actually find meaningful content. So if you post, try to be meaningful, and if you cannot post something meaningful (like me, who is literally talking to a brick wall ranting on and on and on about stuff nobody cares about) then at least try to say it with your own voice.
This is exactly why I love this blog so much. It is a place where I can put forth my own voice, a place where I can write in my own style. I encourage other people to also carve out their own little space where they can just be genuine. I believe that the path to a happy and fulfilling career starts with you being honest to yourself and the world. Let people know the real you. I, at least, would like to get intimate with you 😳.
(From a post made on LinkedIn) (The image attached was the meme of that guy talking to a brick wall) (This may or may not have been my best post on social media yet)
